Alice R. Dewire, 93, of Bethlehem, was called home to be with the Lord while surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, April 27, 2017, in Kirkland Village.  Her husband of 57 years, James E. Dewire, died in 2005.

Born in Coaldale, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Mabel (Rinker) Herring.

A 1942 graduate of Coaldale High School, she earned a Bachelor's degree in nursing from St. Luke's and Children's Medical Center School of Nursing of Philadelphia in 1946.  She was employed as a registered nurse at Coaldale Hospital, in private duty at Lehighton Hospital, at St. Luke's Hospital Neonatal Department in Bethlehem and finally at  Muhlenberg Hospital.

A dedicated Christian woman, Alice and her husband partnered in various outreach ministries throughout their life together.  She owned and managed Fisherman's Net Christian Book and Gift Shoppe in Bethlehem for 26 years.  As a couple and later as a family they hosted numerous concerts, speakers, Passover Seders, and opened their home and garden to thousands of friends and neighbors for Bible studies and home meetings.

Alice was formerly a member of Olivet E.C. Church, Bethlehem, and attended First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem and Calvary Baptist Church of Bethlehem.  She  enjoyed reading, sewing, the beach and traveling with her family throughout the world.

Survivors: Sons, James A. Dewire, and his wife Mary E. and Jeffrey J. Dewire, and his wife Sharon; a daughter, Alyssa D. Gould and her husband, Leo J. Gould, III), all of Hanover Township; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two on the way.  She was predeceased by sisters, Ursil Gerber and Marjorie Herring.

Services: Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 1, in Calvary Baptist Church, 5300 Green Pond Road, Easton, PA 18045.  Family and friends may call from 10 - 11 a.m. Monday in the church.  Burial will be private.  Arrangements, Pearson Funeral Home, Bethlehem.
