Ann Hall Ainsworth passed away December 7, 2022. Ann was born in Cambridge, MA on April 10, 1928, to Lawrence P. Hall, PhD., and Blanche Milliken Hall. She was the youngest of three. Her brothers were Lawrence P. Hall, Jr. and John Milliken Hall. Growing up she would play basketball against her brothers, thereby gaining skills that made playing against other women "a piece of cake" when she got older. The family moved for her father's work first to Ferguson, MO, then to State College, PA, then to Moorestown, NJ, where Ann attended and graduated from high school. She was an accomplished high school musician, and traveled regularly during World War II to play tenor sax with the high school's dance band, the High Hatters, for soldiers' dances at Ft. Dix, NJ.

After graduation from high school, Ann attended Pembroke College, which at the time was the women's college in Brown University. She graduated with a degree in biology in 1950. At Pembroke she played on the women's basketball team. One game she set what was then an all-time single-game scoring record of 52 points.

It was at Brown that she met Lawson Ainsworth, '50, a fellow student. They were engaged during their senior year and married June 14, 1950, after which Lawson began three years active service as an officer in the U.S. Navy.

During Lawson's time in the Navy, they had their first child, George Hall Ainsworth, born October 23, 1952. After Lawson left active service, he took a position in Sales with the Bethlehem Steel Corporation in 1953. His work for Bethlehem meant the family living in Bethlehem, PA, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Ann's younger son, Robert Lawson Ainsworth, was born in Connecticut April 16, 1961.

The family moved back to Bethlehem, PA in 1965 for Lawson's career. There they became active members of First Presbyterian Church. Ann was particularly active, serving as Church Elder, as leader of Presbyterian Women, and a participant in the Stephen Ministry of caring for others. Ann was also active in the community, serving in Meals on Wheels and the Visiting Nurses program.

When empty nest season set in, she and Lawson traveled widely. They made multiple trips to Montana and San Diego and also visited Oregon, Washington State, British Columbia, Alberta, Alaska, Nova Scotia, England, France and Sweden. As Lawson was an avid fisherman, many of these trips included time fishing together. Ann often recounted how, to her shock, she hooked and landed a fresh-run steelhead in Oregon all by herself.

Ann's beloved husband Lawson passed away in 1999 after 49 years of marriage. As Lawson was passing away he told his son George "your mother's tough, she'll make it". She did, but she would so much rather have been with him.

When Grace Church of Bethlehem began, Ann moved her church membership to go with it. Although health issues limited her ability to be active in church life these recent years, she continued to join worship services via her computer and to avidly follow developments regarding the new building.

Ann is survived by her son George and his wife Carolynn, her son Robert and his wife Donna, three grandchildren – John Ainsworth and his wife Celeste, Dr. Joy Nassar, MD and her husband Dr. Matthew Nassar, an Assistant Professor at Brown, and Dr. Alyson Ainsworth, DVM. John and Celeste have five children: Arianna, Ivey, Ian, Heidi and Beatrice and two foster children Any and Sharon. Joy and Matthew have three children: Alice, Theresa and Matilda.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023, in Grace Church of Bethlehem 521 E. Locust Street, Bethlehem, PA.
