Barbara R. "Bazzie" Mowrer, devoted wife and mother, passed away after a lengthy illness at the age of 86 in the comfort of her loving family.  She was the daughter of the late Archer M. and Lydia Priscilla (Kelly) Wallace.

Barbara graduated from Liberty High School in 1950 where she sang in the High School Choir and the Liberty "12 Plus" singing groups.  In 1954, Barbara graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education.

As music educator, Barbara began her career in the Rockville Maryland Junior High School.  Upon marriage to Clifton E. "Tip" Mowrer, Jr. she moved back to Bethlehem to raise her family.  Eventually, she was called back to education in the Allentown School District at Harrison Morton, but left the position upon the birth of her youngest son, Andrew.

Community activism was very important to Barbara and she became involved with the Junior League of Bethlehem, the United Way, Habitat for Humanity and the First Presbyterian Church.  She loved tennis and was a past city of Bethlehem Women's Champion as well as the club champion at Saucon Valley Country Club.  Including her singles titles, she holds many mixed doubles titles as well.

Barbara loved to travel.  She and Tip traveled throughout the world and to each of the major continents.  One of her favorite trips was with President Jimmy Carter to Africa with Habitat for Humanity building houses and communities.

She is survived by her loving husband, Tip, of over 60 years.  In addition to her husband she is survived by her brother, Robert Wallace and wife Patricia of Jacksonville, Fla.; sons, Jeffrey T. and wife Pamela of Greensburg, Pa. and Andrew and wife Stacey of Bethlehem; her daughter, Dr. Susan Mowrer Benda and husband Joseph of Bethlehem; grandchildren, Attorney Kyle J.M. Benda of Tampa, Fla., Cameron C. M. Benda of New York City, and Izabella O'Brien Mowrer of Bethlehem; nephews and nieces, George Mowrer, Ruth Mowrer Huron, Margaret Mowrer Sharpe, Pam Laudenslager, BethAnn Wallace and Eric Wallace and a number of great nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 22, in the First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, 2344 Center Street, Bethlehem, PA.  Arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Bethlehem.
