Derick Bradt Van Schoonhoven, 92, died Saturday, February 17, 2018, in Kirkland Village, where he has resided since 1997.  He was the husband of Anne Brewer.  They were married in 1995.

Born in New York City, NY, he is the son of the late John Jacob and Marion Elizabeth (Kent) Van Schoonhoven.

A graduate of A.B. Davis High School, Mount Vernon, NY, and Champlain College, Plattsburg, NY, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Stage Design from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh.

He worked as a lighting designer and salesman in New York and Eastern Pennsylvania during his 45 year career with Holophane Co. and Century Lighting Co.

He served in the U.S. Army, 71st Infantry Division, in Germany and was awarded  the Purple Heart for wounds received at the crossing of the Rhine River and the Bronze Star medal for ground combat against an armed enemy during World War II.

Mr. Van Schoonhoven had been President of the Reading, PA Host Lions Club, a charter member of the United States Institute of Theatrical Technology, for many years the President of the Greater New York Delta Tau Delta Alumni Association, served on the board of the Pennsylvania Society of the Sons of the Revolution, and Sons of the American Revolution, is a member emeritus and past Regional Vice President of the Illuminating Engineer Society of North America.

Surviving with his wife, Anne Brewer are three daughters, Suzanna Hunter of Duanesburg, NY, Phoebe Krewson of Chapel Hill, NC and Annabel Felton of Esperance, NY.  He was predeceased by his first wife, Lucia Burdick (French) in 1993.

A private memorial service will be held in Albany in the spring.
