Elizabeth (Betty) Fisher was born August 29, 1920 to Elsa Fiege Fisher and John Schaeffer Fisher at Cooper Hospital in Camden, New Jersey.  She was baptized at St. John's Episcopal Church, Camden, NJ, on Easter Sunday in 1921. She grew up with her parents, older brother, William, and younger brother, Richard, on Kenwood Avenue in Camden, across the street from her maternal grandparents.

Betty graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Camden where she met her future husband, Samuel Woodside, while they were both serving as hall monitors.  She graduated on the business track and got an office job right after high school which she continued until she married Sam on October 17, 1942.  They lived briefly in Thomasville, Georgia during the Second World War and in 1949 moved to Oaklyn, NJ, along with Elsa, Betty's mom, where they raised their son Thomas Bruce (1944 ) and Sandra Ann (1948).  Betty was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and gardening.  As her kids got older, she returned to work outside of the home at JC Penney's, first as a salesperson and later as a bookkeeper.

Betty dearly loved her family and hosted many holiday dinners and picnics as she and Sam raised their family in Oaklyn. She truly had the gift of hospitality. For, in 1987, after Sandra and Ted's house fire, she took in the Birchmeiers for seven months.  In later years, she offered loving hospitality to her family whenever it was needed, by providing bed and breakfast and more, during their visits back home.

After forty five years of marriage, her beloved Sam died in November of 1987, and she continued on at their home at 910 Redman Avenue, Haddon Twp.  She enjoyed traveling the world with friends, visiting with her grown children and grandchildren in various states, and getting together with friends.

Betty, along with her family, was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, in Oaklyn, where she remained for 69 years.  She faithfully served her Lord in many capacities: in Couples Club, in social ministry, and in the church kitchen, where she and her buddies cooked many church suppers.  She also faithfully served on altar guild for over 50 years. She dearly loved her church family.

She lived in her house until 2007, when she moved into an apartment in Haddon Twp. She continued socializing with her South Jersey friends until 2015 when she moved to Traditions of Hanover, Bethlehem, PA, to be closer to her family.  She peacefully passed from this life to her eternal home on Oct. 3, 2019, surrounded by her loving family, who stayed by her side night and day throughout her last week at St. Luke's Hospice, Bethlehem.

Betty will be lovingly remembered by: son, Thomas and his wife, Libby; daughter, Sandra and her husband, Ted; grandchildren; Abigail Bandali, Julie Palmer and husband, Kirk, Val Eblin, and Drew Birchmeier and wife, Anita; step grandchildren, Beth Downs and Stephen Dreikorn; great grandchildren; Samuel and Jacob Birchmeier; Sydney and Eli Palmer; Daniel Eblin; Saara and Aryaan Bandali; and step great grandchildren; Walter and Lawson Boeth  and Hannah and Zachaeous Dreikorn.  She will be lovingly remembered by all.

Betty's service of Remembrance and Resurrection was held on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Pearson Funeral Home, Bethlehem, PA.  Her burial service: Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro, NJ at 1:00 PM.
