Ellen Grim Harter of Bethlehem, PA, passed away on Friday, March 26, 2021.  Ellen was the wife of Michael Fay Harter.  They were married on June 17, 1961.  She has a daughter Holly Ives Harter, and son-in-law Harry Snodgrass, of Kutztown, PA, and a son Peter Farrington Harter and daughter-in-law Shelby Perkins of Salem, Oregon.

Born in Trenton, New Jersey on December 1, 1935, Ellen was the daughter of J. Lawrence Grim, deceased, and Marian E. (Baum) Grim, deceased.

She is survived by her husband Michael Fay Harter, by two brothers, J. Lawrence Grim Jr., and his companion Kathy O'Dea, of Naples, FL, John F. Grim, and his wife Jane Grim, of Perkasie, PA, and by her husband's sister, Mary Jane Smith and her husband, Wilson Smith of Falmouth, MA.

Ellen graduated from the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, PA in 1954, and from Pine Manor College in Wellesley, MA, in 1956.  She received from the Yale School of Art in New Haven, CT,  a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1960 and a Master of Fine Arts in 1962.

Ellen was a fine artist in oil painting for over 60 years.  She had received many art awards in many art shows, the most recent being her solo show in 2018 at the Baum School of Art in Allentown, PA.

Ellen was an active person -- playing golf, and going for walks with her husband, and reading to one another.  She loved going to New York City with her husband for the theater and dining.  She and her husband Michael toured art and architecture sites in France, England, Ireland, Scotland, and Italy, especially Florence.

She was a member of the Junior League of the Lehigh Valley, the Bethlehem Garden Club, the Bethlehem Fortnightly Reading Club, the Bethlehem branch of the AAUW, the Bethlehem Palette Club, Saucon Valley Country Club, and the Cathedral Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem.  Ellen enjoyed being active in the community - attending local concerts, and theater - as well as hosting gatherings with friends.

Ellen had a sweet personality, a youthful spirit, and loved animals.  She grew up on a farm where she and her family rode horses.  In Bethlehem she enjoyed several generations of cats.

Ellen was devoted to her daughter Holly, her son Peter, and her husband Michael -- the joy of her life.  She was elegant.
