Eva D. Jones, 99, of Bethlehem, passed away January 14, 2024. She was the widow of Howard Jones, Jr. who passed in January 2008.

Eva was a proud Mother who honored her German Haupt family heritage. Her parents, Clayton and Florence (Silvius) Haupt of Bath PA and her siblings all settled in the Lehigh Valley. Her Father and most of her siblings served in WW1 and WW2. All returned safely from overseas duty. Though the second youngest in her large family Eva was always available to provide counsel and cheerful support. For several years prior to her husband Howard's passing, she was his supreme caregiver. It is apropos that she was an irascible independent, and caring for herself, just prior to her passing. Her legacy fulfills her wish that everyone who knew her would remember her with a kind heart and smile.

Eva was a member of Christ Church – UCC, Bethlehem, where she taught Sunday school, was past president of the Mother's Club, belonged to the Quilters and helped in the soup kitchen. She was a member of the Tuesday Club and volunteered with many civic organizations including Lehigh Valley Hospital (Muhlenberg), YWCA, was a charter member of the Crippled Children's Society, the Children's Aid Society of the Lehigh Valley, and was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 470.

She loved the arts and enjoyed oil painting, stained glass, ceramics, quilting, gardening and traveling. She was an avid reader and had a voracious appetite for contemporary mystery novels. Eva was also a great cook and pie maker, something which was passed down from her Pennsylvania Dutch heritage.

Eva was amused to learn her genealogy included Clark Gable and Brigadier General Herman Haupt, Abraham Lincoln's noted Union Army bridge builder.

She was extremely proud of her family. Surviving are two sons: Howard III "Howie" in Fountain Hills, Arizona and Christopher (Patricia) in Moore Township; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Eva's memory may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
