Evelyn Joan Fischer, 90, died Friday, November 11, in Bethlehem, PA. She was born to Albert and Margaret Bahel on May 7, 1932, in Upper Darby, PA. Evelyn graduated from high school in St. Petersburg, FL, and earned her B.A. from Temple University. She was a schoolteacher in Roselle, NJ, until she devoted herself to raising her family. She was happily married to Ralph Conrad Fischer for 64 years.

While living in Watchung, NJ, for 38 years, she was active in volunteer activities and in Wilson Memorial Church. Evelyn made a happy home for her three children and was a vital behind-the-scenes worker in Ralph's business, Val-Pak of Central Jersey. After their retirement, she and Ralph traveled around the U.S. and the world. They contentedly spent their last years together at Kirkland Village in Bethlehem.

Evelyn was a woman of sincere religious conviction who deepened her faith throughout her life via extensive reading, study and service to the church. A trip to Israel in 1998 was a highlight in her faith journey.

She was a humble, cheerful and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and friend, beloved for her practical but wise advice; warm, welcoming presence; unerring moral compass; and dry wit that frequently emerged from behind her quiet and calm demeanor. She enjoyed reading, gardening, classic movies; and a nice, long walk after dinner. Evelyn taught all who knew her to take pleasure in the simple things in life.

Evelyn is survived by her husband and their children, Carol Homeyer (George) of Easton, PA, Paul Fischer of Kaunakakai, HI, and Nancy Foltz (Patrick) of Richmond, VA. She was a doting and proud Grammy to Kristen Jilg (Sascha), Thomas Foltz, Joseph Foltz and Jared Fischer.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Evelyn's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.

A celebration of Evelyn's life will be held on Saturday, June 3, at 11 am in the Kirkland Village Auditorium at 1 Kirkland Village Circle, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
