George W. Oplinger, 75, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2024, in his home. He was the husband of Linda (Wartman) Oplinger.

Born in Northampton, he is the son of the late Robert and Ethel (Oberholtzer) Oplinger.

George was a graduate of Northampton High School where he excelled in both baseball and football.  He earned a baseball scholarship to Lehigh University and went on to graduate with a degree in Industrial Engineering, leading to his inception into the Loop Program at Bethlehem Steel.  Following his college graduation, he continued his athletic pursuit by playing in area softball leagues for the Atlas Hotel, Bob's Cafe, and the Emerald Fire Company.  After beginning his career at the Bethlehem Steel Co., he worked for the Bethlehem Area School District as the Assistant Supervisor of Transportation.  For the past 15 years he has worked at Bethlehem Municipal Golf Course.

George faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War for which he was awarded a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars.

Golf was his passion; in addition to working at the golf course, he also played in two leagues. He was a member of the Wanderers, Jefferson Democratic Club, Heights Athletic Association and the Home Volunteer Fireman's Club. He was also a volunteer at the Miller-Keystone Blood Center.

Surviving with his wife Linda, are a brother John and his wife Helene of Bath; a sister Sarah "Sally" Oplinger of Northampton; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Jane and a brother Robert "Butch".  He is also survived by his devoted canine companion of 6 years, Mason.
