Grace G. Halkins, 97, of Bethlehem, died Sunday, May 12, 2024.  Born September 24, 1926, in Revloc, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Carl E. and Sigrid (Nestor) Gustafson.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, James A. Halkins, with whom she celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in March, 2019. She was a resident of Bethlehem and a longtime resident of Kirkland Village.

A graduate of Ebensburg Cambria High School, Class of 1944, she entered Nurses' Training at Temple University Hospital, graduating in 1947 with a nursing degree. She earned a B.S. degree at Moravian College and also a B.S.Ed. at East Stroudsburg University where she was a recipient of a Magna Cum Laude.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 70 years. One of her true joys in life was singing in the Chancel Choir well into her eighties. She was a Deacon and an active member of the Women's Association at the church. She volunteered at the Westminster Village Bazaar for many years.

She was a long-time member of the AAUW, serving several times as Chairman of the AAUW Book Fair and participating in the AAUW bridge group.

She was a member of the Bethlehem Garden Club, a guarantor of the Bach Choir, and a member of the Saucon Valley Country Club.

She is survived by a son James G. Halkins, and his wife Kathy, of Bethlehem; and daughters, Linda Halkins of Philadelphia and Deborah Halkins of Bethlehem. She is also survived by four grandchildren: William (Wendy) Horvath, Jason (Jenn) Horvath, Noah (Erin) Halkins and Megan (Jeff) Firman. She had 6 great-grandchildren.
