Grace A. Schluter's Obituary
Grace Schluter was born in New York City on July 28, 1919. She was the daughter of Fred and Agnes Costa. Growing up in Queens she graduated from Hunter College majoring in foreign languages. She met Carl Schluter in Wurtsboro, NY and they were married and lived in New York City. After the birth of their daughter they moved to Fort Knox, Kentucky where her husband was an officer in the Army. Following the birth of their son, they moved to New Milford, New Jersey where Grace became a working mother at Bergenfield High School. She was a member and Elder of the New Milford Presbyterian Church and was active with the New Milford Little League. Upon retirement, she and Carl moved to the Pocono mountains at Lake Naomi. She took up golf with her husband at Timber Trails golf course, was active in square dancing, volunteered at the Clymer Library in Pocono Pines and did charity work with the Elks lodge. She was a member of the Pocono Lake Methodist Church. She fondly recalled her time at Lake Naomi as her most enjoyable years, watching her two granddaughters, with whom she was very close, grow into young women. She moved to the Lehigh Valley in 2004 . She lost her husband of 58 years in 2006. She passed away peacefully January 13, 2017 at the age of 97 in Old Orchard Manor Care surrounded by her family.
Survivors: She is survived by her daughter Carol; her son Cal, Juanita; granddaughters Krista and her husband Ezra Denman of Alameda, California and Laura and her husband Ian Norris of Philadelphia; great grandchildren Miles Cal Denman and Blakeslee Dierdra Norris; and daughter in-law Donna Schluter who tirelessly assisted in Grace's care over many years.
Services: Her family will honor her wishes to have a private service with the family at Indiantown Gap Military Cemetery where she will join her husband, Carl.
Memorials: Donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959, Online condolences may be sent to www.pearsonfh.com
Survivors: She is survived by her daughter Carol; her son Cal, Juanita; granddaughters Krista and her husband Ezra Denman of Alameda, California and Laura and her husband Ian Norris of Philadelphia; great grandchildren Miles Cal Denman and Blakeslee Dierdra Norris; and daughter in-law Donna Schluter who tirelessly assisted in Grace's care over many years.
