Helen Marie (Hughes) Oberholtzer, former resident of Bethlehem, PA, was embraced into the loving arms of God at the remarkable age of 96 on Wednesday, August 23, 2023. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, William H. Oberholtzer (2005).

Helen was born on October 13, 1926, in Bangor, PA, to Russell L. and Nellie (Davis) Hughes.  She graduated from Bangor High School and Churchman's Business School and was employed by Metropolitan Edison.

Helen's spirit of giving and care for others was exemplified through her 34-year commitment as one of the original delivery drivers for Meals on Wheels of Lehigh Valley, starting from its inception in 1971. She also found joy in her role as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader and was an active member of the Church of the Manger in Bethlehem for an astounding 70 years, participating in the Women's Guild and Bible Study.

Her legacy lives on through her children: Neal W. Oberholtzer (Sharon) of Newtown Square, Scott Oberholtzer of Bethlehem, Ellen O. Kalinosky (Joe) of Allentown, and Beth Newhardt (Tim) of Bethlehem.

Helen's gentle nature will forever be remembered by her eight grandchildren: Stephen Oberholtzer, Brian Oberholtzer (Maribeth), Chris Oberholtzer, Jeff Oberholtzer, Carly Newhardt, Jed Newhardt (Magdalena), Chad Newhardt, and Kate Kalinosky , her six great-grandchildren and her nieces, Judy (Allen) Ditto and Janie Hughes of Hagerstown, MD.

Helen found joy in sharing conversations and coffee with dear friends at her treasured Bethlehem home, energetic walks around her neighborhood, and cherished lifelong connections with her high school girlfriends, well into their 90s. She enjoyed an enduring bond with her late brother, Conway Hughes (2003) and wife LaRue (2016).

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, in the Church of the Manger, 1401 Greenview Drive, Bethlehem, PA with the Rev. Dr. Rochelle Stackhouse officiating. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 10-11AM at the church. Funeral arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Bethlehem, PA. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Helen's name can be made to Meals on Wheels of GLV, 1302 N. Sherman Street, Allentown, PA 18109.

Helen's spirit will forever resonate with those whose lives she touched, and her memory will be carried as a testament to a life well-lived.
