Joan E. Helman of Bethlehem, passed away April 26, 2023 in Moravian Village. Born in Bethlehem, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Estella M. (Siegfried) Stein. She and her late husband, Robert W. Helman, were married 54 years. She graduated from Bethlehem High School, Class of 1954, where she was active in basketball, band and orchestra. She was employed as a stenographer and then as a secretary in the Research Department of Bethlehem Steel before retiring to raise her children. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She adored her grandchildren and loved crafting and volunteering. She was a life-long member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for 21 years and worked at their Bach Festivals and Fall Bazaars for more than 40 years. At St. Luke's Hospital, where she was honored for exceeding 11,500 hours of Service, she volunteered at the former Age Well Center, Volunteer Services, Human Services, Hospice and Perinatal Departments. She also volunteered for the Cancer Society, Leader Nursing Home and Muhlenberg Hospital. She felt privileged to live and volunteer at Moravian Village of Bethlehem where she was involved as Sacristan in their church services, New 2 You Shoppe, Dining Room Committee, Cops 'n Kids Program, Joy Readers and the Ambassador Program. Joan was very happy to be a member of the Litter Patrol and Garden Committee at Moravian Village.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Geissler (William) and grandsons Justin and Kyle Geissler; son-in-law Brian Sullivan of Allentown and grandchildren Christina, Tim and Julie. She was predeceased by her husband Robert, daughter Jane, a brother and a sister.

Services will be at 11AM on Tuesday, May 2, in the Pearson Funeral Home, 1901 Linden Street, Bethlehem.  Burial will be private.
