On September 11, 2022, Joan (Cross) Trendell of Bethlehem, PA, formerly of Rochester, NY, died peacefully with family by her side in Moravian Village.  Joan lived a full life of 95 years and spent 64 of those years with her late husband, (Wesley) Gordon Trendell (1920-2010).

Born to Bevan Harold Cross and Alice (Spencer) Cross, in Reading, England, on October 25, 1926, Joan embodied fortitude, resilience, and humor.  A survivor of the Blitz during the Second World War, she endured the heartache of moving away from home and country as a war bride when she immigrated to the United States to marry Gordon on June 29, 1946.

Along with her parents and husband, Joan is predeceased by her beloved sisters and brother: Eileen Horrex of Rochester, NY, Spencer Cross, Ivy Hocking, and Patricia Sweet, all of England.

A longtime resident of Rochester, NY, Joan retired after almost 20 years from Wegmans and spent the last three decades of her life in Bethlehem, PA.  An avid and prolific knitter, Joan crafted beautiful Christmas stockings for all 8 of her grandchildren, sweaters and other items for her growing family over the years.  She brought her talents to Moravian Village and founded the knitting club that made prayer blankets for the infirmed in her community.

Joan is survived by her children:  Susan (Wesley) Davis of Florida, John (Terri) Trendell of Georgia and Jean (Stephen) Twilliger of New York.  Also surviving are her eight grandchildren, Ken Davis, Lori Fanning, Christine Gordon, Stephen Twilliger, Carolyn Hedges, Kevin Twilliger, Kelly Trendell Smith, and Jillian Wallace, and her 15 great-grandchildren who affectionately called her "Great-Grandma with the red hair".

On Saturday, September 17, relatives and friends are invited to visitation at 10:30 a.m. and services at 11:00 a.m. in the Pearson Funeral Home, 1901 Linden Street, Bethlehem, PA.  Entombment will follow immediately in Bethlehem Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Caldwell Memory Care Center, 561 East Market Street, Bethlehem, PA  18018, with checks made payable to Moravian Village.
