John Hamilton Standing, 78, of Rosemont, passed away Monday, March 9, 2020, in his home.

Born in Bethlehem, he was the only child of Alfred J. and Frances Dorothea (Hamilton) Standing.

A graduate of Moravian Preparatory School (now Moravian Academy) he received a B.S. summa cum laude from Dickinson College and an M.A. from Lehigh University.  His career was spent teaching biology, first at Springfield High School, Delaware County, then at Villanova University, and from 1972 through 1996 at Delaware Valley College.

He was a member of the American Institute of Biological Sciences, Mid-Atlantic Association of College Biologists, Associate of the Morris Arboretum, Phi Beta Kappa, and the American Association of University Professors.  He additionally did free-lance editing and reviewing for many biology publishers, and authored several in-house biology publications at Delaware Valley College.

He was active at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Rosemont for 21 years where he did volunteer and later paid office work.  More recently he attended St. Mary's Church in Wayne.

John is survived by cousins, Helen Mack of Macungie, Margaret Mack of Boston, Beth Standing, Diane Standing and Nancy Standing Ritter, all in Florida, and Jeffrey Standing in New Jersey, Kristin Keim McHugh and husband Bob and William O. Keim, Jr.  all in Texas, Jeffrey and Heather Keim of Newburyport, Mass., and Angie Keim of St. Augustine, Florida.  He was predeceased by cousins Sheila Keim and Jonathan Keim.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 19, in  Bethlehem Memorial Park, 1851 Linden Street, Bethlehem, PA 18017.  There will be no calling hours.
