Josephine T. Moran's Obituary
Josephine (Simitz) Moran, widow of Michael Moran, Sr., could start a conversation with almost anyone, anywhere, at any time … valet parker, store clerk, a random person on the street. When she was on a vacation or a weekend visit, be it in Myrtle Beach or Philadelphia, she would engage just about anyone who would listen.
It was a major part of what made her who she was. Josephine's gregarious personality was her trademark. Among her joys in life were reading her favorite newspaper, the Morning Call, which she had delivered no matter where she called home. She loved Christmas, lavishly decorating her house and spending months shopping for gifts. Her preferred treats were Russell Stover candy, gum drops, licorice (all shapes, both black and red), Red Hot Dollars and Swedish fish (notice a trend here?). Her family especially remembers the long goodbyes at the front door after a visit. If you wanted to leave at 4 p.m., with Josephine you had to line up at her front door around 3:30, and within 30 minutes or so, you could actually leave. Her family called it "the Moran goodbye."
An Allentown native and long-time resident of Sinking Spring, PA, Josephine was born March 19, 1927, graduating from Allentown Central Catholic High School in 1945. Before she took on the role of full-time of wife and mother, she worked at Lehigh Portland Cement Co., MS Young & Co., and Bell Telephone Co., all in Allentown.
Josephine is survived by her three children, Michael, Jr. (Linda) of Emmaus, Terrence (Karen), of Bernville, PA, and Patricia (Tom) Starner of Philadelphia; three grandchildren, Kelly Moran Schnolis (Marc) of Barnegat, NJ, Nina Starner of Philadelphia and Sean Moran of Latham, NY; brother John (Eileen) Simitz of Egypt, PA, sister Marie Simitz of Whitehall, and her nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown, PA 18013, followed by a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a charity Josephine supported for decades, at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or stjude.org.
