Nancy D. Walters, 91, of Bethlehem, passed away January 1, 2024, in Gracedale Nursing Home, Easton PA. She was the wife of the late L. Douglas Walters of Bethlehem who died in Fort Myers, FL in August 2002. Born in Williamsport, PA and growing up in Altoona, she was the daughter of the late Harold "Fred" and Ruth (Mathes) Hannah.

After receiving a bachelor's degree from Penn State University in 1954, she was employed as an art teacher in the Allentown and Bethlehem Area School Districts at various times. She and her husband also owned and operated the Douglas Shop, spending many years providing ready-to-wear clothing for women in the Bethlehem area, and making many friends in the process. When the shop moved to West Bethlehem, they continued the ready-to-wear clothing, and opened the Douglas Bridal shop in half the building, which she ran successfully – very proud that she always had the gowns for every bride and member of the wedding party in time for their weddings.

A life-long desire was to move to Florida, where it was always warm, and in 1986, the business was sold, and they started spending winters in Fort Myers, moving there full time starting in 1992. Doug passed in 2002, and Nancy remained until 2019, when her dementia became more apparent, and she and her beloved Chorkie Coco moved back to Bethlehem, and Country Meadows on Green Pond Road.

During her entire life, she was an avid and competitive card player, and belonged to many bridge clubs in Pennsylvania and Florida. Even at Country Meadows, she would consistently win more than half the hands at Rummy. Further, she never met an art project she didn't want to try. This included decoupage, pottery, crewel stitchery, oil painting, and making and selling hand painted sweatshirts and t-shirts. When that didn't keep her busy enough, she joined the Cinnamon Cove Condo 13 Activities committee and helped sponsor Friday Wine & Cheese in the Courtyard, became Queen Bee of the Red Hat Society, was a greeter at Faith United Methodist Church and attended many musicals at Broadway Palms Dinner Theatre. She kept busy and active, making many new friends in the Fort Myers area.

Surviving are her daughter Tamie Swain and husband Jim of Bethlehem; her son D. Craig Walters of Bethlehem; four grandsons (Sean, Austin, Kevin Swain and Ethan Walters), two granddaughters (Jessica and Brienna Walters) and two great granddaughters (Harper and Charlotte Swain).

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, January 21, 2024 in the Pearson Funeral Home, 1901 Linden Street, Bethlehem.
