The Rev. Peter P. Grimes, son of the late Esther (Wartluft) and Joseph P. Grimes, Sr., passed away May 22, 2024, at the age of 91.

He grew up in Womelsdorf, PA where he graduated from high school in 1950, then attended Muhlenberg College where he graduated cum laude in 1954. He attended the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Philadelphia and was ordained into the Lutheran ministry in 1957.

He was the husband of the late Ruth (Kratzer) Grimes for 63 years. She preceded him in death in 2017.

He served as Pastor of the former Grace Lutheran Church in Bethlehem for 22 years, retiring in 1995. Previous to that he served the Centerport Lutheran parish (Bellemans and St. Timothy) in Berks County, and St. John's Farmersville in Bethlehem Township. He also assisted the pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church, Bethlehem, for two years and served as vice-pastor at New Jerusalem Church, Hellertown.

He served for a few years as the first Director of Development at The Good Shepherd Home and Rehabilitation Hospital in Allentown. He served on numerous committees for the Bethlehem-Easton District, Pastoral Associations, the Council of Churches, and the Northeastern PA Synod of the ELCA.

He was a former School Board Director, Schuylkill Valley Joint School System, a former Director of Meals on Wheels, and served as a member of various community organizations.

Survivors: one daughter, Beth Grimes Conover, and her husband John; four grandchildren, Jake, Marissa, Kate, and Ethan. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph, Jr.

Services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, May 30, in the Pearson Funeral Home, 1901 Linden Street, Bethlehem, followed by entombment in Bethlehem Memorial Park. Family and friends may call from noon – 1:00 PM Thursday. www.pearsonfh.com
