Philip Glatfelter Schroeder, 83, of Nazareth, PA, passed away suddenly on September 14, 2026.
He was a man who loved and was devoted to his community, family, and friends. His kind,genuine, and gentle spirit showed through his acts of compassion for humanity. His favorite poem was “The House by the Side of the Road” by Sam Walter Foss and he said this poem and especially this line, spoke to him, "Let me live in a house by the side of the road / And be a friend to man." Phil was kind, accepting, nonjudgmental, and a friend to all. Phil loved music,especially church and classical music, travel, history, steam engines, trains, and tinkering around in his barn and his workshop. He treasured his home and the beauty and nature surrounding it, as well as walking the trails of Jacobsburg State Park.

Born on May 25, 1943, in Little Falls, NY, Phil was preceded in death by his parents Herbert W.and Marion (nee Miller) Schroeder and his siblings Michael and Anne. He is survived by his brother, Herbert Jr. Phil attended Gettysburg College and earned a Masters degree from Cornell University. He worked at NY State University College at Buffalo and then Lafayette College from 1969 until he retired in 2005. From 1991-2005, he was the Executive Assistant to the President and Administrative Secretary to the Board of Trustees. Phil was an active member, board member and Past President of the Jacobsburg Historical Society and an active board member of The American Friends of Lafayette.

Phil is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 36 years, Barbara, her children Dawne von Czoernig (Eric), David Myers, and Donna Pomeroy; their 9 grandchildren, Tyler Sands (Erin),Trevor Sands (Heather), Hillary LoStracco (Joe), Brittany Cintron (Joe), Emma von Czoernig(Staf), Kelsey, Cody, Adam and Aubrie; and their 4 great-grandchildren, Theo, Tanner, Summer and Scarlett.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at 11:00am at GRACE Church Bethlehem, 4301 Hecktown Road, Bethlehem, PA, 18020. The service will be followed by refreshments and fellowship.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in his name to GRACE Church Bethlehem.
