S. Phillip Steen, 98, of Fort Myers, Florida, went to be with his Lord on January 2, 2023.
Phillip was born in Philadelphia, Pa on January 25, 1924, to Rosella (Hirleman) Steen and Harlan Steen. He previously resided in Nazareth, Pa and Chatham, NJ.
Phillip was predeceased by his first wife, Marjorie (Ireton) Steen and is survived by his wife, Ida Beth (Brown) Steen. He is also survived by, his son, Richard H. Steen and his wife, Susan, of Lawrenceville NJ, his daughter Deborah Ann Schmalz and her husband, Thomas, of Nazareth, Pa., four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Phillip was a proud veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corps on an Air-Sea Rescue Boat. He was a television engineer from the early days of television at NBC in New York City. He then worked in television research at Bell Telephone Laboratories in Murray Hill, NJ and was technical director of the Bell Labs television studio.
Phillip had a strong, lifelong faith in God and volunteered his time and technical knowledge in many ways in overseas service and in the churches he attended.
Phillip was a lover of all things technical and mechanical. He restored the family's 200 plus year old house in Chatham. His hobbies included restoring antique and classic cars, sail and power boats, motorcycles, clocks, pipe organs, juggling and his high wheel bicycle. He was the Chief Engineer of the model railroad club in his Fort Meyers retirement community.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 12:00 noon at Pearson Funeral Home in Bethlehem, Pa.
