Ralph Conrad Fischer, 91, died on August 19 in Bethlehem, PA. He was born in Rahway, NJ, and grew up in nearby Westfield. After graduating from Westfield High School, he attended Gettysburg College and then served for three years in the Army. He was happily married to Evelyn Joan Fischer for 64 years, until her death in 2022.

Ralph worked for 17 years with the Epicures' Club in Elizabeth, NJ, and later operated a Valpak franchise. He lived most of his adult life in Watchung, NJ, where he and Evelyn raised their three children. To relax, he was fond of golf, tennis, softball, volleyball and fishing, many of which he shared with his children. After his retirement in 1997, he and Evelyn traveled extensively around the U.S. and the world. They eventually moved to Kirkland Village in Bethlehem and were active members of the community there.

Many of Ralph's activities outside of work and family revolved around helping others. He coached a Ponytail softball team, was a longstanding member of the Optimist Club, served on the Watchung School Board, volunteered for a hotline that served the deaf and hard of hearing, and was a Stephen Minister.

Ralph was the embodiment of optimism, generosity and kindness. A true "people person," he loved bringing folks together and making sure that no one was forgotten. At Kirkland Village, he was known for organizing special programs that connected and entertained people, and he and Evelyn often hosted dinners to help new residents meet their neighbors.

Ralph is survived by his sister, Polly Reilly, and his children, Carol Homeyer (George) of Easton, PA, Paul Fischer of Kaunakakai, HI, and Nancy Foltz (Patrick) of Richmond, VA. He was a doting and proud Granddaddy to Kristen Jilg (Sascha), Thomas Foltz, Joseph Foltz and Jared Fischer, and great-grandfather of Jonah and Josiah Jilg. He was predeceased by his parents, Ernst and Marie Fischer, and brothers Robert and Richard Fischer.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ralph's memory may be made to the charity of your choice. His life will be celebrated by the Kirkland Village community later this year.
