Richard O. Hammersmith, 95, of Bethlehem, passed away Monday, October 7, 2024. His wife of 62 years, Gloria (Gemberling) Hammersmith died August 9, 2012.

Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Robert and Mildred (Kessler) Hammersmith.

Richard was employed by the former Lehigh Valley Bank as Senior Vice President before retiring.

A member of the former Messiah Lutheran Church and several iterations, Richard volunteered to serve the handicapped in many ways, especially with the Alliance for the Mentally Ill and Mental Health Society of the Lehigh Valley.

Surviving are sons, Richard of Bethlehem, and John (Lynn) of Palmyra; daughters, Leslie Snow (Robert) of Bethlehem Township and Jenny Weiss (Stephen) of Williams Township; a sister Elizabeth Hammersmith of Bethlehem; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sons James and William, granddaughter Marlene, and daughter-in-law Nita.

Services will be held at 11 AM Monday, October 14, in the Pearson Funeral Home, 1901 Linden Street, Bethlehem. There will be a calling hour from 10 AM until service time. Burial will be private.
