Dr. Robert E. Malec, 90, formerly of St. Louis, Missouri and Arcadia, Michigan died Tuesday, March 26, 2019, in St. Luke's Hospital, Bethlehem Township, PA.  His wife of 61 years, Bernice (Jaeger) Malec, died in 2016.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was a son of the late Stanley and Anna (Shedrow) Malec.

After graduating from the University of Illinois, he earned both Master's degree and  Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Chicago.  During his research career, he received more than 50 U.S. Patents in the field of petroleum additives.  Bob was a gifted horticulturist, loving anything green with roots and leaves.  He pursued a lifelong fascination with the smallest of plants to the largest of trees.

He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Northampton, PA and Trinity Lutheran Church, Arcadia, MI.

Surviving are two sons, Rev. Raymond Malec, and his wife Jane Pearson of Bethlehem and Daniel Malec of Rochester Hills, Michigan; grandchildren, Christina Haas, and her husband Kevin, Andrea Malec, Michael Malec, and his wife Melissa and Johanna Pearson Malec; great-grandsons, Jaxon and Rowan.  He was predeceased by a brother, Arthur.

Services and interment will be held in Arcadia, Michigan.
