Ruth A. Grimes' Obituary
Ruth A. Grimes, 84, of Bethlehem, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2017, in St. Luke's Hospital. She and her husband, The Rev. Peter Grimes, celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on June 26, 2016.
Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Huff) Kratzer.
Ruth graduated from Allentown High School in 1950. She also graduated from Allentown Business College and worked for three years at Yarnal-Waring Company in Philadelphia while her husband completed his theological education. She worked for a few years in the Lehigh Valley as a Kelly Girl, then worked for 35 years at Lehigh University in the Civil Engineering Department, retiring in 2003.
She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church. In previous churches she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School.
Ruth had a real zest for life and loved to travel, making two trips to Germany as well as trips to England, Australia and Canada, and a few trips to the west coast. She was an avid swimmer, usually swimming a mile a day. She also visited the ocean as often as possible, spending many happy days at Beach Haven on Long Beach Island, NJ. She enjoyed gardening and was very proud of her garden. She was an aficionado of Broadway shows, making numerous trips to New York City.
Survivors: In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Beth Lynn Conover, and her husband John of Farmingdale, NJ; four grandchildren, Jacob, Marissa, Kate and Ethan Conover. She was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor.
Services: Will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 20, in the Pearson Funeral Home, 1901 Linden Street, Bethlehem. Family and friends may call from 1 - 2 p.m. on Friday.
